BYD eMax 7 Comfort Variant Launched: Spacious Electric MPV Now Starts at Rs 27.90 Lakh
The Indian electric vehicle market just got more exciting for large families and premium MPV buyers. BYD has updated its popular electric MPV, the eMax 7, by renaming the base trim to Comfort and introducing it with a larger battery pack at a competitive price. This move makes the eMax 7 even more appealing as a practical, long-range family electric vehicle.
What’s New with the BYD eMax 7 Comfort?
BYD has repositioned its entry-level offering. The previous ‘Premium’ base trim is now called Comfort. More importantly, this variant now comes equipped with the larger 71.8 kWh Blade Battery (previously reserved for higher trims), delivering a claimed MIDC range of up to 485 km.
This update bridges the gap between the smaller-battery Premium variants and the top-spec Superior models, giving buyers better range without jumping to the highest price point.
Pricing (ex-showroom):
eMax 7 Comfort 6-Seater: Rs 27.90 lakh
eMax 7 Comfort 7-Seater: Rs 28.30 lakh
Note that prices have increased slightly (by Rs 1 lakh for the 6-seater and Rs 80,000 for the 7-seater compared to the old base), but the added battery capacity and range justify the adjustment for most buyers.
Power, Performance & Range
The Comfort variant features a front-wheel-drive electric motor producing 161 bhp and 310 Nm of torque. While not as quick as the Superior’s higher-output motor, it offers smooth, silent acceleration perfect for city commutes and highway cruising.
Claimed Range: 485 km (MIDC)
Battery: 71.8 kWh Blade Battery (known for safety and longevity)
Charging: Supports fast DC charging for convenient top-ups
The eMax 7 shines with its flexible seating. Both 6-seater (captain chairs) and 7-seater configurations are available, with the third row folding flat to create a massive 580-litre boot space — ideal for family road trips, airport runs, or weekend getaways.
Key Features of the Comfort Trim
Even as the “entry” variant now, the Comfort trim is well-equipped for Indian families:
Comfort & Convenience: Synthetic leather upholstery, 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, automatic AC with rear vents, keyless entry & go, and power-folding mirrors.
Infotainment: Large 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus a 5-inch digital instrument cluster.
Lighting: All-LED headlights, taillights, and dynamic turn indicators.
Safety: 6 airbags, 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, ESC, tyre pressure monitoring, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and more.
Higher Superior variants add ADAS, ventilated seats, panoramic roof, and even more power, but the Comfort delivers strong value for most needs.
Why Consider the BYD eMax 7 Comfort?
True Family EV: One of the few proper electric MPVs in India with genuine 6/7-seater practicality.
Proven Blade Battery Technology: BYD’s signature safety-focused cells.
Low Running Costs: Electric motoring means significant savings on fuel and maintenance.
Premium Feel: Spacious cabin, modern features, and a commanding road presence.
In a market dominated by SUVs and traditional MPVs like the Toyota Innova or Maruti Invicto, the eMax 7 stands out as a forward-looking electric alternative with zero tailpipe emissions and refined drive.
Who Should Buy It?
If you’re looking for a premium electric people-mover for family use, corporate shuttling, or even light commercial applications, the new BYD eMax 7 Comfort is worth a serious look. It balances range, features, and price effectively in the sub-Rs 30 lakh segment.
